Allow me to re-introduce our readers to Eolande McKengan. Today we read her story of how she became a party to the most profound change Earth has had to face since recorded history began.

She is the last able bodied member of the holders of that fragmented and woefully incomplete history. And now, she must accept once and for all that she will have to work with a person who does not have Earth's best interests at heart.

And thus began The Changing Of The Guard.

Dear Max and Mitru:

I am impressed by your comic. You managed to cram every bit of history you wanted to in a light and interesting way (a clear narrative is fundamental in a # 1 or a reebot).

About the art, is amazing! Eolande, Tycha and Alyce all seem gorgeous, and they really express the characters emotions: Tycha seems approachable and a true hero, Alyce seems exactly like a big brother bully your father sent to make you behave, and Eolande seems truly concerned for her future and mourning her past.

The story per se is interesting too: Humanity has been tampered by aliens, hence the insurgence of metahumans. We are “pawns” in a forever war between the saurians created to plunder and reproduce, the Gundari, and the Osurum protectorate, a lot of aliens that oppose them.

So, this is not an idealistic setting, the Osurum protectorate is using humanity as another pawn against the evil Gundari, and knowing that some humans betrayed them to the Gundari in exchange of tech is seen not only as treason, but also as a menace. Humanity proves again to be a reckless, irrational force.

And even the changing of the guard is fitting: Tycha is a heroine who searchs to inspire the best part of humanity. Alyce is the bully that wants you to know what is your place.

Great storytelling and great art, this story rocks, congratulations to both of you!

Just in case you were wondering, while I do watch the History Channel and those horrible Ancient Alien programs, the seeds for this story go much further back in time.

When I was very young, I saw Chariots of the Gods in a theater. It was so bad, I had to laugh even then. But as I started reading more science fiction novels and saw how badly the authors got their science, I began to form a thought experiment about alternate universes where such things might occur.

And thus did the idea that an alternate Earth where Erich von Däniken and his theories would be closer to reality came to be. You'll see more of the trail of ideas progress as we move through the stories I've come up with. I'm also going to toss in a mild debate of ideas I staged with a famous writer I knew in California in one of my stories.

Chapter 2 will be the opposite side of the coin I've tossed in the air with chapter 1. We'll see the same beginning from Alyce's perspective. I won't give away the story yet. Sadly, you'll have to wait until Mitru returns from his vacation.
