And now, he learns of what his ex-lover has done at his abandoned research facility. And it seems he's had second thoughts about what his priorities are now.

Dear Max Hass and Mitru:

It’s always refreshing to see a villain who is not obsessed with revenge on his archenemies and pursues another villainous interests like conquer the world. Roland seems to have read a lot of comics and have thought: this is stupid! First the world, then the revenge!

I cannot wait to see how he will use his powers to get even more power. He also has decided to let his identity in the past. But somehow, I doubt the name “Don Shelle” would spread fear in the hearts of those good doers.

But the real good part of the tale is Axphyx design: Her wardrobe is awesome! Badass Longcoat, great glasses, skimpy shorts, and in the end, I think of some kind of sadomasochist gear!

Oh, and the cover was lying to us! No scene like that in the tale! What a shame, I would have liked to see Don Shelle subjugating Axphyx!

Now I think: what is exactly Ricochet’s relationship with the villain previously known as Roland?

Thanks for the close reading of the plot, Hector!

One thing to keep in mind is that Roland isn't really himself anymore. He's got a lot of tiny computers running through his body now. Not all of which are doing what they were designed for. And his new 'hive mind' partner is just now beginning to manifest its own goals based on what they were programmed to do by the yet unnamed doctor we saw watching over him and in the files Whiplash uncovered. More on this in future installments.

The same holds true for Ricochet. Her background is still cloaked in mystery. But this much is clear. Her history includes working in the military. A military that was very much backed by Roland's industrial might. The details are still a surprise, so I won't spill the beans on this yet.

I'm really proud of what Mitru did with that cover art. It is symbolic of the role she will begin to play in future chapters. It would have been nice if we had the budget and time to have better integrated more of this particular foreshadowing here and now. But rest assured, I have a chapter or two planned that will explore the full nature of Axphyx's relationship to Roland. And it's not all platonic.
