Dragon Woman Returns

JFK International Airport
New York City
USA
Noon

KARL MISAWA felt strange returning to New York after all this time.Four years ago...Karl was a decorated New York City police detective whose world was shattered when his partner Detective SANDRA LEEL took a bullet meant for him when he was investigating the illegal activities of a Guyanese businessman named BILL WILKINS in New York.

As she died in his arms...she confessed her love for him and her secret identity as a masked vigilante DRAGON WOMAN...who had saved him several times before from people who were protecting Wilkins.

Karl was blamed by his fellow officers and his superiors for Lee's death. They charged that his obsession with Wilkins being some kind of transnational criminal and employing any means necessary led to the death of his partner.

Driven by rage and an insatiable desire for revenge for the death of the woman he had just learnt had secretly loved him for over a year...Karl tracked down Wilkins to GUYANA..where his minions were fueling ethnic riots in the South American nation...which the aim of distracting the authorities from detecting the threat posed by his Neo Nazi crime syndicate until it was too late.

He found allies there in the country's famous superheroine OCELOT WOMAN..who he later learnt was Stabroek News investigative journalist KIM PARMASAR...her partner photographer JOHNNY CHAN..and their boss BRUCE KANDIVAS.

Their meeting happened on the day he arrived in Guyana...when Ocelot Woman was
outwitted by Wilkins..who set a trap she never suspected. When she attended the opening of a paediatric wing of the Georgetown Memorial Hospital...he had his deputy/lover Karen Lagerfeld..along with his bodyguards Werner and Reinhard...capture her at the hospital.

It was the first time that anyone discovered and exploited the sole weakness of the sexy Amazon of Guyana...her large firm brown breasts..which she often referred to as her Ocelot Breasts...drugging them with chloroform and then using the heroine's own golden lasso to force her to admit all of her weaknesses. They kidnapped Johnny too when he went looking for her. Wilkins would have surely prevailed that day...had it not been for Karl's fortuituous arrival in Guyana and intervention...on the same day.

Karl remained in Guyana since then..working as a special police agent attached to the United States Embassy in Georgetown..with authority which equalled that of Guyana Police Chief Martin Cain...who opposed both the imposition of Misawa on him..as well as the critical role which Ocelot Woman played in bringing several of the country's top criminals to justice..when the Guyana Police were unable to do so.

With crime on a lull in Guyana...and Ocelot Woman and her new teen partner OCELOT GIRL able to handle any threat...Karl came to New York to wrap up some outstanding business.

He also came to see CHRISTIE LEE..the kid sister of his deceased partner. Since Sandy's death..Karl sent money back for Christie. He exited the terminal and flagged a cab to take him to Chinatown.

Chinatown, Manhattan.
New York City
3 pm.

Karl Misawa alighted from a taxi cab into the crowds of bustling people on the corner of Bowery and Division streets. Misawa knew this place well and notwithstanding the fact that four years had passed since he was last here...it looked to the former New York city police detective that nothing had changed here.

Pushing these thoughts to the back of his mind...Karl pulled his coat around him and held his bags in either hand as he made his way towards his destination..as a light shower of show descended from the sky above and he inhaled the cool crispness mixed with smog in the air. Up ahead of him..the 44-storey structure that was known in Chinatown as Confucius Plaza loomed ahead of him. Confucius Plaza was one of several tenement buildings which formed the housing stock in this part of the city.

As he made his way..through the crowd...and towards the building...Karl could feel himself being briefly transported back in time. The sights..the sounds..even the smells which filtered through his senses...they all reminded him of Sandy.

They reminded him of the times they spent together working side by side..in the squad room of their old police precinct...working the streets of Chinatown...of the times they shared together when they were off duty. Like Chinatown itself...there was so much about Sandra that Karl knew...and at the same time..so much that he didn't know about her...including how deeply she was in love with him..so much so that she sacrificed her life for him.

That she was a costumed heroine as well was something he couldn't wrap his head around. So consumed in his thoughts was Karl Misawa...that he didn't know that eyes had been watching him for some time as he approached and entered the 44 storey Confucius Plaza.

The eyes belonged to two white men..who were seated in an unmarked car that was parked around the corner from the building near a laundry mat..some small restaurants and shops.

"You'd better call the Captain on this one...He'll want to know that Misawa's back in town.." said the man in the passenger seat. "Copy that.." replied the driver as he pulled out a walkie-talkie which from its markings and insignia..identified him and his partner as members of the 21st Precinct of the New York City Police Department (NYPD)...Karl's former squad.

24 hours later
Columbus Park.
New York
9 pm.

Karl Misawa strolled through this scenic park near Chinatown...in the company of 20 year old Christie Lee...the younger sister of his former and now deceased partner Sandra Lee.

After having dinner at the popular Shanghai Cuisine nearby...they enjoyed each others company as they took a walk in the scenic park nearby.

Karl remembered how he and Sandra would sometimes come here after their shift at the New York Police Department's 13th Precinct was over. Even though four years had passed since she died and he left New York...the memories of his former partner who was becoming more to him just before she died...were as fresh in Karl's mind as if they all happened yesterday.

As he looked at Christie...he could not believe the beautiful young woman that Christie had grown into during the four years since he had left New York. How much she resembled her older sister. Her short crop of shiny black hair...deep brown eyes..full cherry lips..and smooth bronze skin.

As they walked hand in hand along the concrete pathways of Columbus Park..Karl admired her curvy figure..aptly highlighted by her ankle high boots...tight-fitting skirt..baggy shirt and black leather jacket. His thoughts were interrupted as they stopped and Christie turned to him..wrapping her slender arms around his neck.

"Oh God Karl...You have no idea how much I missed you..." said Christie with a smile as Karl put his hands on either side of her curvy waist. "Sorry about that kiddo...Things happened..." said Karl apologetically. "You don't need to apologise Karl...especially not to me...Sandy understands..I know she does..." replied Christie as she placed her gloved hands on either side of his face..and Karl looked into her eyes as she smiled at him.

"I just can't over how much you've grown..." said Karl as they continued walking..hand in hand. "Well it has been four years since you left...I'm grateful that you kept sending money back...but still...I would have liked it..if you had stayed..." replied Christie.

"I know..but it was all too much to handle..Sandy dying..the scum who killed her going free..." said Karl. "But you did get him...Bill Wilkins...I read that he died in some kind of prison break in Guyana...that's where you tracked him to...that's where you been all this time..." said Christie.

"Wow!..You're quite the detective...Never thought youu we're going to be a private investigator after college..." remarked Karl. "Our parents wouldn't have approved but I felt I had to do it for Sandy..and for me too...Is that why you stayed away all this time?..What took you so long to come back?" asked Christie as they paused and sat down on a bench. The young woman noticed a strange silence had suddenly fallen over the former New York city cop and he seemed to be at a loss for words.

To her..Karl Misawa never looked more adorable. Unknown to Karl..Christie had developed a crush on him while he was her sister's partner in the NYPD. As a teenager she looked forward every morning to when Karl picked up his sister and their home to take her to the police precinct. She enjoyed his company when they came home very late because an investigation took longer than office hours to solve...often sharing a meal at their place.

Christie always suspected Karl was in love with Sandra...but he never showed it. She knew her older sister was in love with Karl but had a secret which she was afraid to reveal to Karl.

Because she loved her sister...who had looked out for her ever since their parents dies..Christie put away any fantasies she had of having a future with Karl Misawa..praying that one day Sandra would be able to express the love she had for her partner to him. The bullet from the gun of now deceased Guyanese Neo Nazi crime lord Bill Wilkins changed all of that.

Karl was never the same after Sandra was killed at Wilkins' hand and was dishonorably discharged from the NYPD after he tried to shoot Wilkins before he left New York for Guyana. Karl followed him there..and remained there until now.

Even though she was grateful that he supported her from thousands of miles away..sending her money to allow her to finish college...Christie missed Karl. He was the closest thing she had to family with her parents and sister deceased.

As Christie pondered these thoughts..Karl was trying to figure out what to tell her. Spending the time with Christie Lee since returning to New York had a strange and unexpected effect. Looking at her...Karl so so much of Sandra in Christie...he had to remind himself that this was the younger sister of his now deceased partner.

He found himself filled with regret..for all those unspoken words between Sandra and himself. Taking a deep breath..Karl composed himself and prepared to answer Christie's question.

"Sandy was part of the reason why I stayed away...but there's another reason why I..." began Karl before he was interrupted by the unmistakeable sound of pistol hammers being cocked.

Karl got to his feet...standing in front of Christie to shield her as four men wearing ski masks...all armed with guns surrounded them. "Karl Misawa...You're coming with us.." said one of the men.

To be continued.
