 Blaise Montoya -The Price of Power-#16 The silence of the harbor was shattered by a sudden, jagged scream of gunfire.
“Ambush!” Briggs roared, his voice cutting through the chaos. He moved with a clinical, terrifying efficiency, his weapon spitting fire in precise, rhythmic bursts. He wasn't just fighting; he was operating, a machine of war turning the docks into a slaughterhouse.
Nearby, Elara was a ghost in the smoke. She drifted through the periphery of the fight, a shadow draped in lethality. Two men fell before they even realized she was there, their breaths stolen by silent, surgical strikes.
Nix, however, was a frantic contrast. He crouched behind a rusted shipping crate, his eyes wide with panic as he unloaded his magazine in erratic, desperate bursts. “I’m contributing emotionally!” he shrieked, the noise of his weapon nearly drowning out his own voice.
In the center of the storm, Gideon and Blaise fought back-to-back, their movements a seamless, violent choreography.
“On your left!” Gideon barked.
“On your right!” Blaise countered.
They moved in a synchronized dance of blood and trust, a singular entity carved from adrenaline and instinct. But the rhythm broke. A grenade skittered across the concrete, landing with a dull metallic clink at Blaise’s feet.
“BLAISE!” Gideon’s voice cracked with desperation.
He didn't hesitate. He lunged, his weight slamming into her, tackling her off the edge of the pier and into the freezing black maw of the harbor just as the world erupted in a blinding white flash.
The explosion vanished, replaced by a void of crushing ink. Silence descended, heavy and oppressive, broken only by the slow, rhythmic ascent of silver bubbles. Blaise sank, the current pulling her down into a suffocating embrace.
