In our last exciting episode, the desperate search for Samantha DuLange took an unexpected turn, Trixi Wilson paid a brutal price for defying Alex Veritas, and Davina Pyckle finally revealed the true scope of her ambitions.

At Knox Labs, Jake Eldritch returned to finalize the mission that could save Chase Monroe from the PermaSeal Eternity Vault. Davina Pyckle had solved one of their biggest problems. They don't need to search the ocean for Element-1. With no remaining sample available for calibration, the scanner will instead hunt for something they know is down there: the trace amount of Element-2 contained within Samantha's Programming Reinforcement Pod. Find the E-2, find the pod. Find the pod, find Solstice. With AmeriGirl capable of surviving the crushing depths without a submarine, Jake finally has a workable rescue plan.

Meanwhile, Trixi Wilson refused to remain another piece on someone else's board. Despite the damage to her Daedalus implants and Davina's lingering control, she stormed Project Whisper Headquarters and for--d an emergency shutdown of the Whisper Cradles, freeing her allies from Alex's conditioning system. It was an extraordinary act of defiance, but Trixi didn't make it back out.

For Alex, the captured scientist presents an irresistible mystery. Trixi had walked directly into her stronghold while remaining hidden from the most powerful psychic mind in the city. Alex wanted to know how. When Trixi refused to cooperate, curiosity turned vicious. Telekinetic force twisted and broke her limbs as Alex demanded answers about the technology shielding her mind. Then Mary Annette received her next instruction: remove Trixi's implants.

And back at Knox Labs, Davina Pyckle finally dropped the pretense. Her takeover was never some impulsive act of revenge. She used Ginx to gain access, exploited Knox's trust, and waited until everyone willingly placed the tools of their own enslavement inside their heads. Davina blames Amely Knox for what happened to her father, but her ambitions now reach far beyond revenge.

While Jake searches for Solstice and the others scramble to free Chase, Davina has her own war to fight. Richard Pyckle spent years proving that even the most powerful heroines could be controlled, contained, and broken. His daughter intends to finish that work.

And Alex Veritas is standing directly in her way.
