 TIGER KITTEN- Test of a trini teen heroine-06 The air in the drying shed hung thick and sweet, heavy with the fermented perfume of cocoa beans turning black on the raised wooden trays. Zariah, still half-cocooned in the remnants of the Tiger Kitten suit, felt the heat pressing down, an invisible weight that made her temples throb. Rough sisal rope bit into her wrists, tethering her high up on a support beam, her bare feet dangling inches above the dusty floor. Disorientation clung to her like damp fabric. She blinked, the world blurring back into the harsh reality of the corrugated iron roof radiating the midday sun.
A shadow detached itself from the gloom near the entrance. Rico. He was a slab of muscle, sweat darkening the cotton shirt stretched tight across his chest. His eyes, dark and flat, scanned her tied form, settling on the ocelot print fabric clinging damply to her skin.
“Look like a blasted stray cat caught in a mango tree,” Rico’s voice was a low gravel rumble, devoid of humor. He stepped closer, the floorboards groaning under his weight.
Zariah tried to pull against the ropes, a futile spasm of resistance that only sent a jolt of agony up her arms.
"Eighteen years old. Playing vigilante. You should be home doing homework, little girl. Now look where you are."

Zariah’s breath hitched, a silent, panicked sound as he unbuckled his belt, the metallic *hiss* echoing in the oppressive silence.
"I need to teach you a lesson the streets won’t forget. A lesson about power."
