For centuries, the Eternal Empire colonized across the Universe, establishing a vast number of human settlements throughout Known Space. But like every empire, it experienced its downfall; crises and internal conflicts have made it difficult to maintain control over the Core planets surrounding the Imperial capital, Acheron Prime. The outer colonies, once ruled by Noble Houses subservient to the Imperial House, now thrive independently as merchant leagues and various organizations unrelated to the Old Empire emerge across different worlds.

With technology fading, the Imperial Technomancers are the only individuals qualified to develop and safeguard Imperial Technology under the supervision of the Inquisitors of the Ordo Veritatis. However, on the distant planet of Reliquary, the ancient monastic order of Mnemosyme strives to preserve ancient knowledge and recover as much technology as possible to support the new outer colonies. Among the Vestal nuns, the Seekers are responsible for exploring the ancient outposts and factories, now forgotten and abandoned, in search of that lost knowledge.

One of them, Sister Calipsa Lux, is heading toward the abandoned gas mines of Xylos-7...
