Post TARZANN -The Last Law of the Wild- 06
Tarzann's eyelids fluttered open. A throbbing ache pulsed through her skull, a dull echo of the chloroform's assault. Her limbs were bound once more, the rough rope biting into her skin. Panic flared as her gaze fell on the metallic glint at her feet. bombs. Crude, but undeniably lethals.
She strained against the ropes, muscles screaming in protest. The lingering effects of the drug clung to her, turning her limbs to lead.
Desperation clawed at her throat. She had to move, had to escape. Time was a luxury she couldn't afford. The bombs ticked with insidious purpose, each click a death knell. Think, she commanded herself. Use what you have. She drew on the primal connection that thrummed beneath her skin, the link to the jungle that was her birthright.

"Help me..I need you..Now."

Doubt gnawed at her. Was she too weak? Had M'Bala finally broken her spirit? She pushed the thoughts aside, focusing on the raw, untamed energy that flowed within her.

The jungle listened. A rustle in the undergrowth, a flicker of movement in the periphery. Hope surged as a troop of apes materialized, their eyes gleaming with intelligence. They had heard her call.

"Free me...Bomb… danger…"

The apes understood. With agile movements, they swarmed her, their strong fingers working at the knots.
The ropes loosened, fell away. Tarzann stumbled to her feet, legs unsteady.

"Go! Now! Far away!"

The apes needed no further urging. They scattered into the jungle, melting back into the shadows. Tarzann didn't wait. She ran, adrenaline coursing through her veins, pushing her beyond the limitations of her battered body.

She didn't look back. Trusting her instincts, she sprinted towards the river. She dove headlong into the water. A heartbeat later, the jungle erupted.
The explosion ripped through the air, a deafening roar that shook the ground. Flames licked the sky, scorching the trees.
Tarzann surfaced, gasping for breath, the shockwave buffeting her. She had made it. Barely.
