Post subject:  More spamming

Some knucklehead went crazy in almost every forum.

I check these forums out about once a day if you wanna give me more privileges I can help in the forums. There's about six or seven forums the latest guy spammed I'm unable to delete.

I added your name to the moderator list for every board save for each of our individual forums. Thanks for the offer to help out!

Anyone else want or need an upgrade of their forum privileges?

For the record, I clean house here twice a day.

They won't stop.

We need stronger registration security to stop the spambots.

Notice that I have been holding the line by sweeping all dead or known spammers from the member list.

rDogg is the last legit poster to join, and others are few and far between.

If the e-mail address linked to the account is clearly garbage, out they go.

can't we just stop adding new people to the forum and approve all future members. most spammers aren't going to go to that much trouble to join, are they ?

Whoa Max, they're keeping you busy.

The SHIB forum uses an 'approval' system as well, but they're not directly tied to a paysite.

This forum set-up is great for HIP promo needs... restricting access may turn away prospective paysite memberships. The best case scenario would be to be able to block certain IP addresses perhaps. I don't know.

But I'll help you delete the fuckers, Max.

We tried that a little while ago.

Every admin got the same message demanding attention any time someone attempted to join the forum.

Blocking ISPs by number tends to be a loosing battle as well. I've done it dozens of times. They just spoof new addresses. I have better luck with the e-mail carriers. Block them and the spammers have to come up with a new fake service. I haven't blocked the major players though...

We'll just have to continue to sweep the halls every day. Now that there are three sets of regular eyes, the job won't be that overwhelming.

Fin makes a good point, and is the biggest arguement against moderation registrations. We don't want to turn away even one legitimate prospective customer, even if it means letting every spammer sign up. I personally delete probably 4 or 5 spam postings per day myself, so I'm guessing that when you add in Max and whomever else's work there are a dozen or so total each day that need to be deleted. A small price to pay in order to be open and friendly for potential members? I think it is.
