Post subject:  Manga Studio from e-frontiers
Hey guys; has anyone heard anything about this new product at e-frontiers?

I'm wondering if it might help with the postwork aspect to making the comics here. I'm not a big fan of using PS myself.

Sounds like it has some cool talk balloon features.

Maybe it has page formatting features too.

Looks like a lot of painting features I'd never use though. I think it's geared more for pen and ink artists

Yeah, the page layout and talk balloon functions are what I'm interested in; they sell a package as a companion to Poser, but it doesn't really explain what the tie in is. I was just curious if anyone heard anything more about it or has used it.

Might be worth it just for the balloon stuff...I've tried the Photoshop pen tool and it's not very intuitive - would be a bitch to work with to draw 30 balloons for a 10 page update. I've been using the preset balloon shapes that come with Photoshop 7 but they have limitations - can't really have a long pointy tail. I'd be interested in the Manga Studio if it had total balloon shape manipulation as well as type functionality within the balloons.

I've heard photoshop CS has text functions that fit the dialogue text within the ballon shape boundaries without you having to shape the text lines yourself to match the balloon dimensions.

Too many Poser goodies to buy...decisions decisions :P

CS does have a text function for the ballons; it's okay...I've never really been happy with my postwork results out of PS but then, I'm not really an expert in it like some of you guys are. I'm still pretty intrigued by Manga Studio's ablility to make true "comic book" effects. I'm kind of hoping they put out a demo eventually.

I joined the passport club, and bought the motion
artist and now they're giving the damn thing away.
I think e-frontier is shoving a lot of stuff out
there to see what sticks. I like the fact that
my font library is available thru photoshop, and
i like all the shading and such options. I'm still
learning new stuff all the time, and enjoy the
experimentation. I'm not giving e-frontier any
more money without some serious consideration.

With the type Tool still selected, hold the control key, and click on the point of the bubble you want to move. It will then show you these dots, and you can drag it and adjust the shape of the photoshop preset bubbles.
