Super San - THE SLEEPY ADVENTURES - 10
The hidden passage spat Dr. Masaru Kuroda into a subterranean rail car, his breath misting in the cold recycled air. The car lurched forward, magnetic tracks humming beneath him as he descended deeper into Tokyo's forgotten infrastructure, bomb shelters from another war, repurposed now for his private vengeance.
"She humiliated me. She grew. She swelled with power and dared to shield those insects from my triumph...Very well, Super San. You wish to play at giants? I shall summon a leviathan."
The secondary facility lay three kilometers beneath the Tsukiji Outer Market, accessible only through biometric locks that scanned his retinas, his fingerprints, the specific cadence of his heartbeat. Kuroda had constructed it during his years at the Chrysanthemum Bureau's theoretical division, before they cast him out for "excessive ambition"as if ambition were a disease rather than evolution's engine.
The vault door exhaled, releasing pressure that had built for eleven years.
"Welcome home, Doctor."
The automated voice belonged to a woman he had loved once... before the Bureau took her too. He had never changed the recording.
The command center stretched before him, a cathedral of screens and pulsing fiber optics. At its heart, the Leviathan Control Array dominated the space, an interface designed to communicate with something that should not exist, something he had discovered in the Philippine Trench during a survey mission the Bureau had classified and buried.
"I didn't want this. I offered you chloroform dreams, Super San. Gentle captivity. Scientific observation... But you resisted... You grew.... You made me look small."
His fingers danced across crystalline keys, each press sending signals through kilometers of shielded cable to the seabed.
The central display bloomed with sonar imagery: the Pacific depths, pressure enough to crush submarines, and within them, a shape stirring from sediment that had accumulated since the Miocene.
The buoy had drifted for six years, disguised as oceanographic equipment, its true purpose known only to Kuroda and the creature it served. Now its acoustic projectors activated, emitting frequencies that no human ear could detect, patterns that spoke to something ancient, something that had known the world before mammals, before flowers, before the very concept of mercy.
The seabed trembled. Sediment clouds billowed upward like inverted snowfall. Then A deep roar echoes from the depths. The Dream Kraken rose.
The Dream Kraken surged eastward, leaving a wake of dead fish and altered water chemistry, toward the city that had once worshipped such creatures in shrines now forgotten, in stories now dismissed as superstition.
In his command center, Kuroda watched the ferry's destruction on thermal satellite feed. The Kraken's heat signature blazed like a second sun against the cold Pacific.
His secondary screens showed news feeds already stirring, social media fragments from fishing boats that had witnessed the distant lights, the impossible shapes. Soon the Bureau would know. Soon she would know.Super San - THE SLEEPY ADVENTURES - 10: http://memberslogin.hipcomix.com/gallery3/index.php/Mitru/Super-San/THE-SLEEPY-ADVENTURES-OF-SUPER-SAN?page=2 Read on...
