Steel doors groaned open. Dr. Masaru Kuroda entered with the confidence of a man who had finally cornered his prey, his lab coat trailing behind him like a funeral shroud. The mist wraiths drifted in his wake, their vaporous bodies faintly luminous, whispering secrets in voices like wind through dead reeds.
"Even the mighty Super San cannot resist the swamp's breath."
The wraiths circled the machine, their forms passing through each other in lazy spirals, their glowing eyes fixed upon her unconscious form.
"She breathes… but she does not fight." "Her strength is vast, yet her unconsciousness makes her ours."
"Guard her well. Tonight, I begin my experiments. If she awakens, she will awaken in chains." The wraiths dispersed to the chamber's corners.
Kuroda strode to a concealed panel, his fingers dancing across hidden switches. Machinery ground to life, coils warming, tubes pressurizing,
a crystal at the device's core awakening with malignant light.
"Tonight, I siphon the very essence of her strength. Her unconsciousness makes her helpless… the perfect subject."
A tube entered her with mechanical indifference, stretching her unconscious body, filling her with cold purpose. The machine's hum intensified, harmonizing with the pulse of the green tubes. Energy began to flow from her chest, from her core, spiraling through the tube and into the crystal's hungry depths.
