CRYSTAL CARTER looked out the window of her apartment at the light snowfall outside, a sign that Christmas was coming. Born and raised in the rural parts of this growing metropolis, the 20-year-old black woman was a law student at HATTERSVILLE UNIVERSITY. With no family to go home to, Crystal opted to spend the holidays in her apartment in town, close to the university. While she seemed to be an ordinary woman to many people in Hattersville, Crystal was far from ordinary.

This was evident from the bear claw amulet which hung around her neck as she stood at the living room window of her apartment, clad in a loose fitting white robe and tiny white silk panties, looking outside at the snowfall, people and vehicles moving outside her apartment building.
Crystal remembered the circumstances under which she found the Native American talisman which granted her the power to transform into Hattersville's new crime fighting sensation, LADY BEAR.[/i]
