Welcome to 2015 and a brand new installment of the Early Missions Trilogy of Changing of the Guard!

This story was inspired by very real events of the past year. Events that have yet to fully play out on the world stage. Imagine, if you will, what might happen if a metahuman were to become a carrier of a plague? We’ll explore this and other significant events leading to the first break up of Alyce and Eolande.

But first, allow me to introduce you to Lady Penelope Ann Cadman, wife of an adventurous soul named Andrew Cadman. She was born in England circa 1834. Following her husband, they embarked on a journey that would lead her to a fate unimaginable in her world. Read on and learn of her tale.

Minor note: a British person from the mid 19th century (outside of a very few scientists) would not be using the term "kilometers", or even know what that meant. The UK didn't start switching to metric until the 1960s.

Point taken.

I need to step up my research.

However, I'm going to give this narrative a bit of leeway given that the two primary characters of this chapter were explorers. Granted explorers would not be recognized as cartographers as such. But the British did have something of a fetish for record keeping wherever they traveled. Take their exploration of India for example. The East India Company took painstaking efforts to measure their holdings in that part of the world almost 30 years earlier.

Thus, I'm going to leave that specific measurement unit in place. Leagues would be a bit too confusing in this context.
