Harlem, New York City. 1970. Noon.


She made her way through the crowded and smoky interior of the 17th Precinct of the New York City Police Department (NYPD) and no one paid any attention to her. To the ordinary eye she was just another young black woman…somewhere in her 30’s. Her black hair was arranged in a thick afro atop her head. She wore a baggy, turtle-neck yellow sweater…gray skirt down to her knees and black leather boots up to her knees. A heavy black leather hand bag was slung over her left shoulder as she walked towards an office….where a semi-bald, moustached and fat white man in a suit sat behind a desk..with mountains of paperwork piled up before him.

The man..who was none other than the commanding officer of the 17th Precinct..looked up and a frown immediately appeared on his wrinkled face as he saw her. “Miss Larah Jones…. To what do I owe the pleasure of your visit this time…?!â€
