Montezuma Marine Institute, Costa Rica. Present Day.

US Navy Commander Keith Clancy and marine biologist Dr Maria Martinez had been trying to unravel a mystery of disturbing proportions. For the past three weeks...there had been a series of strange events happening off the Pacific coast of the Central American nation. Ships and their crews were being attacked by unknown persons under strange circumstances while sailing in this area. The authorities had found the ships abandoned and adrift days after they failed to return to port. They had no recollection of what had happened to them. Fortunately the events had been isolated but the Costa Rican government was worried that the country's growing reputation as a tourist destination could be ruined. This was why they turned to the Montezuma Marine Institute to get to the bottom of this mystery while they kept the local and foreign press from catching wind of what was happening.

Clancy was involved in his capacity as US Navy liasion to the Institut..because his government was concerned that these disappearances could pose a threat to the national security of the United States..and the missing boaters were just a test for something more serious to come. The blonde-haired, athletically built sailor was in the launching bay of the Institute..preparing his special one-man fighter sub for departure when he heard the familiar sounds of a woman's high heels echoing off the concrete jetty..drawing closer to him. He looked up to see his friend and partner at the Institute..Doctor Maria Martinez..considered the foremost marine biologist in Costa Rica..walking towards him.

"Keith..You can't be going out now...We still have no idea what caused these incidents..." said Maria with concern in her voice. Clancy looked at the young woman..who had shoulder length black hair..large rimmed glasses on her face..and was wearing a pale blue dress under her white lab coat. "Relax Maria..I'm just going offshore to make one brief sweep of the site where the last incident happened...None of the lab tests have come back with anything conclusive...and you know I'm more of a hands on kinda guy.." quipped Keith with a smile. Maria eyed him curiously over the rims of her glasses. "I know arguing won't stop you...but make sure the fighter-sub's tracking radar is working..just in case you need help.." replied Maria.

"Aye aye Ma'am" said Keith with a salute as he untied the mooring lines and climbed inside his vessel. Maria Martinez watched from the dock of the launch bay as the fighter sub sailed out into the open water and dove beneath its blue surface. Maria then walked out of the launch bay..towards an outdoor holding pen..where an adult male dolphin was swimming playfully. The dolphin chortled playfully as she approached. "I know Darwin...Keith can take care of himself...but still..." began Maria. Suddenly...she felt vibrations in the small pearl earrings which were hidden from view by her thick mane of hair.
